Resort Undergoes Extensive Refurbishment

The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa is undergoing a significant refurbishment program, impacting various aspects of the guest experience. General Manager Greg Allen, who took over in October 2024, initiated the upgrades to enhance both facilities and service delivery.

The extensive work covers accommodation, dining venues, recreational amenities, the kids' club, and public spaces. This comprehensive investment by the resort's owners aims to modernize the property while it continues to welcome guests, ensuring a seamless transition during the improvements.

Guest Feedback Guides Enhancements

The direction of the refurbishment is largely shaped by direct guest feedback, which Marriott's systems gather post-stay and during visits. This data helps pinpoint areas where the guest experience can be improved and what features are most valued.

Greg Allen emphasized the importance of preserving the island’s natural beauty and Maldivian character, including its over 150-year-old banyan trees and coconut palms. The strategy focuses on integrating modern comforts and technology while maintaining the authentic setting and identity that guests recognize and return for.

Personalized Service and Staff Development

A key enhancement focuses on streamlining the guest experience, particularly around holiday planning. The resort encourages guests to pre-arrange activities, from excursions to cocktail-making sessions, before arrival. Once on the island, a dedicated team member, known as a 'connector,' assists with arrangements like restaurant reservations, allowing guests to fully unwind.

This personalized approach is supported by staff development programs, including Marriott International’s Kurimagu initiative for leadership training and an apprenticeship program for new hospitality professionals. Marriott recruits approximately 80 to 100 interns annually across its Maldives properties.

Implications for Maldives Destination Weddings

Couples considering the Maldives for a destination wedding or honeymoon will find an updated and refined experience at the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. The enhancements in accommodation, dining, and personalized guest services are designed to offer a more comfortable and effortless stay.

The resort's commitment to preserving its natural charm alongside modern luxury presents an attractive option for those seeking both idyllic beauty and high-quality amenities.

These strategic upgrades align with a broader trend in Asia's luxury hospitality market, where resorts are continually investing to meet the evolving expectations of discerning wedding and honeymoon travelers.
