S P Setia's Investment in Event Infrastructure

S P Setia is investing in significant enhancements and sustainability initiatives across its two Malaysian convention centers. The Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Penang has seen infrastructure upgrades, including new ballroom carpeting and improvements to its lighting, audiovisual systems, and overall sound quality.

The venue also plans to install acoustic panels to improve sound insulation between adjacent halls, allowing multiple events to run simultaneously without interference. These improvements aim to meet the growing demand for large-scale gatherings and provide a superior experience for organizers and attendees.

New Event Space at Setia City Convention Centre

Over in Selangor, the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) is expanding its offerings with a new event space designed to host up to 100 guests. This addition, expected to be completed by late 2026, will provide greater flexibility for event organizers, accommodating standalone functions or serving as a complementary space during larger conferences.

Oh Kin Tat, head of Convention Centres at S P Setia, noted a rising demand for smaller, more personalized gatherings, including intimate social events. The new space directly addresses this trend, offering a versatile setting for various functions.

Driving Sustainability in Malaysian Events

Both convention centers are advancing their commitment to environmental responsibility. Setia SPICE in Penang has launched a food-waste circular economy initiative, partnering with Universiti Sains Malaysia and Al-Ansar Integrated.

This project utilizes black soldier fly larvae to convert food waste into animal feed and organic fertilizer, moving the center closer to its goal of zero food waste. At SCCC in Selangor, rooftop solar photovoltaic systems are being installed, with the hall system already operational and the ballroom system expected to be fully energized by October.

The venue also introduced digital menus, saving approximately 4,450 printed sheets in 2025 and preventing an estimated 22kg of carbon emissions. Other green measures include in-house reverse-osmosis water production, textile recycling, and food waste composting, alongside maintaining its Green Building Index certification.

Implications for Couples Planning in Malaysia

These upgrades offer new possibilities for couples planning weddings or related events in Penang and Selangor. The enhanced audiovisual and sound systems at Setia SPICE will improve the ambiance for large banquets, while the planned acoustic panels ensure a more private and focused experience.

For those seeking more intimate celebrations, the new 100-guest event space at Setia City Convention Centre, opening by late 2026, provides a flexible option for smaller receptions, engagement parties, or rehearsal dinners. Couples prioritizing eco-friendly choices can also consider these venues, benefiting from their comprehensive sustainability initiatives.

When inquiring, couples should ask about the specific features of these upgraded spaces and the available green practices.
