Gaurav Gupta Establishes Paris Atelier
Indian designer Gaurav Gupta opened a permanent couture atelier in Paris on October 2. Located in the city's 8th arrondissement, just two minutes from the Grand Palais, the 300-square-meter space operates strictly by appointment. This strategic move aims to meet increasing global demand for his distinctive designs and provide a highly personalized couture experience.
Gupta, who first appeared on the Paris fashion calendar in 2023, now secures a year-round presence in the fashion capital, extending his engagement beyond specific fashion weeks. The atelier primarily caters to very important clients (VICs) seeking private consultations for custom pieces.
Intimate Couture Experience
The new Paris location offers a complete couture service, allowing clients to view, try, and customize pieces within an intimate environment. Gupta is celebrated for his sculptural and surreal occasionwear, frequently drawing on the aesthetic of the sari and featuring intricate hand-embellished details.
His designs are often described as wearable architecture, making them a favorite for celebrity dressing.
According to Hema Bose, founder of brand consultancy Maison Bose, who collaborates with Gupta's house on its global footprint, a standalone atelier enables the brand to control the entire client journey, from the presentation of collections to the quality of service and brand storytelling.
Strategic Global Expansion
Gaurav Gupta's company reports an annual turnover of approximately $9.5 million. Currently, 85% of this revenue originates from India, with the remaining 15% generated in international markets, including the US, Europe, the Middle East, and the UK. The Paris atelier is anticipated to add between $2 million and $2.5 million in annual revenue.
This expansion is a key step in Gupta's strategy to increase international market contributions to over 20% of overall sales, establishing a more direct physical presence abroad. The brand remains entirely self-funded, a deliberate choice for organic business growth.
Impact on Bridal Couture
For Asian couples seeking unique bridal couture or exceptional occasionwear, Gaurav Gupta's permanent Paris atelier offers direct access to bespoke designs. The opportunity to customize a gown in Paris, home to many premier couture houses, significantly enhances the appeal for clients who value a luxury experience.
This initiative also highlights a growing trend among Indian designers to establish a year-round global footprint, potentially inspiring other Asian bridal brands to consider dedicated international outposts for their high-net-worth clientele.
Clients can now consult with a dedicated Paris team, led by Jean-Paul Cornut, for their wedding or special event needs throughout the year.
