Multi-Million Dollar Upgrade Commences

The InterContinental Brisbane on Queen Street Mall is undergoing a multi-million dollar refurbishment, with work commencing in October 2026. This extensive project will revitalize the hotel's 319 guest rooms, suites, and crucial event spaces. The renovation aims to establish a new standard for luxury hospitality in Brisbane, with a full unveiling anticipated by late 2027. General Manager Shaun Parsons stated this transformation will set a new benchmark for luxury in the city.

Enhanced Design and Expanded Facilities

Global design firm Woods Bagot, led by Principal Tracey Wiles, is overseeing the transformation. The design will draw inspiration from Brisbane's natural environment while honoring the building's original architect, Harry Seidler. Upon completion, the hotel will expand its room count from 319 to 324.

New additions include an upgraded concierge gallery on Level 6, a relocated Club InterContinental, and a reimagined pool deck area, alongside new dining options.

Modernised Event and Celebration Spaces

The comprehensive refurbishment extends to all meeting and event spaces, ensuring modern facilities for grand celebrations and intimate gatherings. This upgrade positions the InterContinental Brisbane to host sophisticated wedding banquets, receptions, and related events.

IFM Investors, a long-term pension capital investor, has proudly supported this unique Seidler-designed building for over two decades, focusing on enhancing its assets for the future.

Implications for Destination Weddings

Couples considering destination weddings in Australia, particularly from Southeast Asia, can anticipate enhanced luxury venue options in Brisbane from late 2027. The upgraded event spaces and amenities at InterContinental Brisbane will offer new choices for grand banquets and intimate ceremonies.

Planners should inquire about new capacities, specific event space features, and package offerings as the renovation progresses to secure preferred dates for their clients.
