Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef Unveils $5M Eco-Luxury Relaunch March 2027
The eco-luxury Australian property, owned by Journey Beyond, will unveil new wilderness tents, an all-inclusive open bar, and renovated common areas by March 2027.
Major Upgrade for Ningaloo Reef Eco-Resort
Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef, an eco-luxury property in Australia, will undergo a significant refurbishment. The resort, owned by Journey Beyond, has committed $5 million to this transformation. It is scheduled to reopen in March 2027, offering an elevated experience for guests.
Located within Cape Range National Park, the property provides direct access to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef, one of the world’s largest fringing reefs. This investment aims to reimagine the guest experience while retaining its natural beauty.
Enhanced Accommodations and Amenities
The refurbishment introduces new eco-luxury Wilderness Tents, each featuring private ensuite bathrooms. Common areas will also see extensive renovations, including the reception, sundeck, and lounge. These spaces will showcase thoughtfully designed furniture, statement lighting, and soft furnishings.
A new dining area will offer banquette-style seating, complemented by an all-inclusive open bar. The resort currently features 16 Wilderness Tents, and these upgrades are designed to enhance the "barefoot luxury" experience for which Sal Salis is known.
Design Philosophy and Environmental Sensitivity
Global design firm Woods Bagot is leading the project, bringing a vision sensitive to the surrounding environment. According to Rosina Di Maria, Director at Woods Bagot, the design emphasizes materiality, with colors and patterns reflecting the local terrain and maritime hues.
Natural timber, including teak and reclaimed jarrah, will be used, alongside raw edges reminiscent of erosion and refined metalwork. Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent stated the new look remains true to Sal Salis' natural beauty, evolving the property's legacy while focusing on guest experience details.
