PATA Foundation Establishes Recovery Fund
The PATA Foundation has launched the Nepal Tourism Recovery Fund. This initiative aims to assist tourism workers and small businesses severely affected by the devastating floods that struck Nepal on August 26.
The natural disaster caused significant loss of life and widespread damage, particularly along crucial river corridors such as the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli areas, including the Rasuwa district. This fund acknowledges the vital contribution of tourism to local livelihoods and Nepal's economy.
Supporting Affected Tourism Communities
Communities reliant on tourism faced extensive losses, with guides, drivers, porters, and operators of homestays, lodges, teahouses, and small hotels losing their homes, business premises, equipment, and income. The Nepal Tourism Recovery Fund will specifically help these tourism-dependent families and enterprises rebuild their capacity to earn a living.
Fund Allocation and Oversight
Donations to the fund will address immediate and practical recovery needs. This includes providing essential equipment for guides, porters, and other tourism workers. It also covers the refitting of lodges, homestays, and teahouses to enable them to receive guests once more.
Additionally, the fund will supply tools, stock, and equipment for various tourism-related businesses and support shared facilities used by affected communities. The PATA Foundation's Board of Trustees will approve every grant, committing to publish transparent information on funds raised and their utilization.
