Sabyasachi Bridal Jewellery Drives INR 2.15B Revenue
Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee's high jewelry line now contributes one-third of his INR 6.45 billion revenue for fiscal 2026, driving his global luxury house ambition.

Sabyasachi Returns to New York Fashion Week
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is making a notable return to New York Fashion Week this week, two decades after his last show in the city. This appearance underscores the Indian designer's ambition to establish India's first truly global luxury brand. For fiscal 2026, the Sabyasachi brand reported substantial revenues of INR 6.45 billion.
High jewelry now represents a significant one-third of this total, highlighting its central role in the company's strategic growth and international market push. Mukherjee emphasizes a mature approach, aiming to showcase the brand's established identity rather than seeking external validation.
Strategic Investment Fuels Expansion
This strategic expansion is supported by a 51% stake acquired by India's leading retail conglomerate, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL), in 2021. The investment valued Sabyasachi at approximately INR 800 million (US$107 million at the time), with INR 75 million (US$10 million) specifically allocated to fund its US market entry.
The brand has also expanded its physical footprint, opening a 2,415-square-meter flagship in Delhi in August, which more than doubles its predecessor's size. Its Mumbai outpost, a 2,000-square-meter heritage space, received a ‘World’s Most Beautiful Emporiums’ award in 2024.
High Jewelry Drives Revenue Share
The brand's expansion into high jewelry began in 2017, a strategic move that has since proven highly successful. This category now contributes a substantial one-third of Sabyasachi's overall revenue, demonstrating its strong market appeal.
Following Sabyasachi's lead, other prominent Indian designers, such as Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Masaba Gupta, have also introduced their own high jewelry lines. Beyond jewelry, Sabyasachi has diversified its product range to include handbags and eyewear, with footwear and other categories currently under development, further broadening its luxury offerings.
Implications for Asia's Bridal Market
Sabyasachi's drive to establish India's first global luxury house sets a precedent for the Asian wedding and luxury markets. The significant revenue contribution from high jewelry suggests a growing demand for designer bridal pieces, a trend that could influence other luxury brands and designers across Asia.
This expansion provides more options for couples seeking high-end bridal jewelry and attire, potentially raising the bar for quality and design in the region's competitive wedding industry. Other Indian designers like Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani are also expanding internationally, signaling a broader movement for Indian luxury on the global stage.
