Phuket’s hotel industry gathered at Angsana Laguna Phuket for PHIST 2026 on September 9, 2026. Over 1,000 delegates attended this ninth annual event. It stands as a leading hotel sustainability conference in Southeast Asia. The Phuket Hotels Association organized the gathering. Participants included hotel owners, operators, and developers.

Architects, suppliers, and government representatives also joined. Environmental organizations and tourism leaders contributed to the discussions. The program featured 93 speakers across 26 panel sessions. Workshops and masterclasses were also part of the agenda. Additionally, 43 exhibitors and 13 non-profit organizations were present.

PHIST 2026 promotes a “Whole Village” approach to environmental responsibility. This strategy urges hotels, government, communities, and suppliers to collaborate. The island experiences rapid hotel and property development. Infrastructure pressures, traffic congestion, and waste challenges persist. Water management issues also require attention. Attention increasingly shifts toward operational key performance indicators. These include energy consumption per occupied room and water usage. Food waste, single-use plastics, and local purchasing are also measured. Staff accommodation and transport emissions are assessed. Coastal protection efforts form another vital metric.

This moves the discussion beyond pledges and intentions. It focuses on concrete performance and accountability. Notable speakers included KP Ho, Founder of Banyan Group. Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi from Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources also spoke. Phil Smith, General Manager of Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, Singapore, was another presenter.
