Hilton Opens Waldorf Astoria Sydney in 2027, Adds Luxury Brands
Hilton is expanding its luxury portfolio in Australasia, introducing Waldorf Astoria, LXR Hotels & Resorts, and Motto by Hilton.

Luxury Portfolio Growth in Australasia
Hilton is significantly expanding its luxury and lifestyle offerings across Australasia, with 13 new projects in its development pipeline. A key highlight is the anticipated opening of Waldorf Astoria Sydney in 2027. This addition will join LXR Hotels & Resorts on the Gold Coast, which is transforming the existing Imperial Hotel, and Motto by Hilton Sydney City Centre.
These new brands, along with existing ones like Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Curio Collection by Hilton, reflect Hilton's focus on the premium segment in major destinations.
Personalised Travel Preferences Emerge
A recent Hilton 2027 Trends Report, shared by Area Vice President Paul Hutton, reveals a “Great Rebalance” in how Australians approach travel. The report indicates that 64% of travelers now plan experiences based on their personal preferences rather than seeking external validation.
While 55% still feel pressure to perfect every detail, only 28% are now trying to accommodate a group’s wishes. This shift points towards more meaningful and individually tailored trips, with 37% of Australians using travel for personal growth and 75% valuing nature and fresh air for relaxation.
Blending Technology with Human Touch
To address evolving traveler needs, Hilton has introduced the Hilton AI Planner, a generative AI tool designed to curate travel suggestions based on individual descriptions. Despite technological advancements, the human element remains crucial for Australian travelers; 74% trust hotel staff as a travel planning resource.
Loyalty programs also play a role, with Hilton Honors evolving in January 2026 to make elite status more attainable. More than a third of Australians, 34%, trust recommendations from those with loyalty status.
Implications for Asia's Honeymooners
The opening of luxury properties like Waldorf Astoria Sydney, coupled with a growing desire for personalized travel experiences, presents new options for couples planning honeymoons or destination weddings from Asia.
As travelers prioritize individual preferences over group accommodation, luxury resorts offering unique experiences, wellness programs, and strong local connections, such as those in Hilton's expanded portfolio, may attract couples seeking bespoke post-nuptial celebrations.
Couples in Singapore, for instance, might consider the new Sydney Waldorf Astoria for a sophisticated city honeymoon, or the Gold Coast LXR for a nature-focused retreat, aligning with the trend of shorter, impactful trips.
