Amway China Event Reveals Luxury Wedding Demands From Asia's Buyers
Over 12,000 Amway Business Owners visited Bangkok between March and April this year, generating US$26.1 million in direct revenue.

New Expectations for Corporate Events
Corporate buyers from China now prioritize business outcomes over standard sightseeing tours and off-the-shelf venue packages. This shift requires suppliers to evolve into solution partners, building proposals around a client's specific internal performance metrics.
These insights emerged from the Thailand Innovative Meetings Exchange (TIME) 2026 panel, "Young and Rich with High Expectations: The New Generation of Business Travellers from China." Panellists urged suppliers to understand client objectives before presenting products, focusing on how a trip motivates staff or builds teams.
Amway China's Bangkok Seminar as a Case Study
Amway China's recent Bangkok seminar demonstrated these new buyer demands. The event brought over 12,000 Amway Business Owners from mainland China to Bangkok in 10 waves. These delegates visited between March and April this year, generating an estimated US$26.1 million in direct revenue for Thailand.
Shirley Chen, Amway China's senior special events supervisor, stated that corporate delegates seek meaningful experiences. They want activities they can shape around their people, rather than standard tourism offerings. This approach reveals a clear preference for personalized engagement.
Customized Experiences and Direct Engagement
The Amway event featured flexible daytime activities, including luxury spa sessions and Muay Thai. A notable highlight was private, after-hours access to the Grand Palace for a group of 1,000 delegates. Local transport and dining were integrated into these experiences.
Amway ferried delegates in a custom-branded fleet of electric tuk-tuks, aligning transport with the company's environmental goals. Delegates used these shuttles to explore night markets and find local food, fostering a sense of discovery.
Quincy Luo, director at China CYTS M.I.C.E. (Shanghai) Service, noted that younger Chinese buyers increasingly research destinations and hotels directly, bypassing traditional planners.
Implications for Asia's Wedding Industry
These evolving demands from high-value Chinese buyers hold significant implications for Asia's destination wedding market. Couples planning luxury weddings will also seek highly personalized experiences tailored to their specific desires, moving beyond generic packages.
Wedding venues and planners across Asia must adapt by offering bespoke activities and demonstrating how proposals meet unique client visions. Eric Zhu, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau's representative in China, noted Thailand faces competition from Korea and Bali for these high-value groups.
Asian wedding suppliers should highlight their unique local advantages and engage actively with prospective clients on social media platforms.
