W Charlotte to Feature 12,000 Sq Ft Event Space
The upcoming 200-key hotel in uptown Charlotte will also include an 18,000 square foot rooftop venue on its 34th floor, poised to be the city's highest.

Extensive Event Facilities at W Charlotte
Spandrel Development Partners has announced plans for a new W Hotel in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. This W Charlotte will serve as the hospitality anchor for the 400 South Tryon redevelopment project. The hotel is set to feature extensive event facilities tailored for various gatherings.
These include a dedicated ballroom, expansive pre-function areas, and a total of 12,000 square feet of versatile meeting space. This significant development aims to enhance Charlotte’s capacity for hosting both corporate events and grand celebrations.
Signature Rooftop Venue and Hotel Capacity
The W Charlotte will offer 200 luxurious accommodations, comprising 173 well-appointed guestrooms and 27 suites, including a signature penthouse. A prominent feature of the new hotel will be its 18,000 square foot rooftop venue, positioned on the 34th floor.
This expansive space is planned to become Charlotte’s highest rooftop bar, designed to provide unobstructed city skyline views. It is envisioned as a prime destination for both hotel guests and local residents seeking unique social settings and memorable event backdrops.
Redevelopment and Design Vision
The hotel is being developed in partnership with 7G Group, with design contributions from Rockwell Group and LS3P, who serves as the architect of record. CetraRuddy also provided conceptual design architecture. The W Charlotte’s design concept draws from the city’s culture, music heritage, and architecture, reflecting its evolution into a modern urban center.
This hotel forms part of a larger transformation of the 400 South Tryon building, converting a 1970s office tower into a mixed-use complex that also features 399 residences.
Implications for Asia's Wedding Market
While the W Charlotte is a North American development, its focus on large, distinctive event spaces, such as a high-altitude rooftop venue, reflects a growing global demand for unique wedding locations.
For Asia’s wedding industry, this trend suggests an opportunity for luxury hotels and resorts in cities like Singapore, Bangkok, or Kuala Lumpur to invest in similar standout venues.
Developing elevated or architecturally significant event spaces could attract couples seeking memorable backdrops for their destination weddings, potentially driving new bookings in these competitive markets.
