Hyatt Expands Leisure Offerings

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has significantly reoriented its business towards leisure travel, a strategic shift with clear implications for destination weddings. Mark Hoplamazian, the company's Chairman, President & CEO, stated that leisure travel now comprises approximately 55% of Hyatt's total business as of 2025. This marks a substantial increase from around 35% in 2017.

A key driver for this strategic shift was the acquisition of Apple Leisure Group during the COVID pandemic, an investment valued at US$2.7 billion. This acquisition aimed to expand Hyatt's presence in the leisure market, particularly through all-inclusive resorts.

All-Inclusive Model for Couples

The integration of Apple Leisure Group has allowed Hyatt to enhance its all-inclusive offerings, a model that Hoplamazian noted helps remove "transactional friction" for both guests and staff.

For couples planning destination weddings, the all-inclusive format simplifies budgeting and logistics, covering accommodation, meals, drinks, and often activities or wedding services within a single price. This approach can make the planning process smoother and more predictable, a significant advantage for those organizing celebrations from afar. Hyatt's focus on this model reflects a growing demand for streamlined, comprehensive wedding experiences.

Benefits for Destination Wedding Planning

This strategic repositioning directly benefits couples seeking destination wedding venues. With an expanded portfolio of all-inclusive properties, Hyatt offers more choices for couples looking for a complete package experience.

The model allows guests to relax and "get to be themselves," according to Hoplamazian, fostering a more enjoyable and less stressful environment for wedding parties.

By absorbing various costs and simplifying the guest experience, these properties aim to provide greater value and a clearer financial picture for couples, enabling them to focus on their celebration rather than managing numerous individual transactions.

Impact on Asia's Wedding Market

While Hyatt's primary all-inclusive expansion through Apple Leisure Group has largely focused on markets like the Caribbean and Mexico, this global strategy will likely influence Asia's wedding industry. As couples in Asia increasingly consider destination weddings, the demand for transparent, all-inclusive packages is growing.

Asian hotel groups and independent venues may observe Hyatt's success in this segment, potentially leading to the development of more comprehensive wedding packages or all-inclusive resort concepts across popular wedding destinations like Bali, Phuket, and the Maldives. This trend could offer greater convenience and value for couples planning their celebrations across the region.
